about
Mark Korven's original soundtrack for The Lighthouse, starring Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe, marks his second collaboration with director Robert Eggers (The Witch).
“Robert [Eggers] and I were rather like the two wickies that went insane in The Lighthouse, musically speaking. We travelled to some very dark harmonic and textural places. We both enjoy not just breaking the rules, but blowing them to smithereens. The spirit of experimentation was always present.”
Mocking Solemnity, Death Becomes You, and For Whom the Bell Tolls are great. SUNN O))) certainly don't do cover versions in the way other bands do, for sure! I wonder what Cliff Burton would have thought of it...? The four collaborations with Masami Akita/Merzbow aren't my thing, but if you are into it then you can find further collaboration on CroMonolithic Remixes for an Iron Age.

this album just really planted in my soil and grew onto me. this lovely album really knows how to take care of my emotions as well as the plants around me that also dance to these songs as well as I do.

The metal’s band revelatory new record crosses genres and styles, effortlessly combining seemingly incompatible subgenres. Bandcamp Album of the Day Apr 26, 2024
This music successfully captures the sensory atmosphere that every work of Cosmic Horror endeavors to induce. Spiritual and philosophical awe encircles a doomful enlightenment.
The blanket of psychic pressure rises, like a swampy tide, as we're consumed into the fathomless mind of the cephalopod god.
